So I downloaded Lubuntu 13.10 32 bit in the hopes of reviving an old PC at home which pretty sits idle because Windows XP on it was too darn slow. So I initially created an bootable flashdisk with Universal USB Installer 1.9.5.6. Upon trying to live boot and then install resulted in random stoppages in the installation and the screen going blank, so I figured it might be a problem with the USB ports on the PC. So I bought a CD disk and burned Lubuntu onto it. It wouldn't even get to the desktop with a live boot. So I tried directly installing it and letting it do the partitions itself and this time I would get the Xfce background with the slideshow and all. Afterwards I am directed to restart my computer for changes to take effect. I do that and then it briefly shows the Lubuntu start up screen with four or five dots. It gets to the second dot and then the black screen with blinking cursor comes up. I can log in using Ctrl+Alt+F2 but that takes me into Ubuntu text-based log in screen and then I am basically in a Ubuntu 14.04 "terminal".
I have tried Internet suggestions such as nomodest=on and starting/restarting lightdm service.
Thanks in advance! :)
