please help me fix x Unity 16.04.  how i broke it  initial resolution good but one minor issue there is no splash screen.  so i added nomodeset to grub, reconfigured it,  and i got one for like 10 seconds of the 2 minutes bootup time.  that was a waste.  but with a weird side effect -- my resolution is now low, and can't be raised in display.  i took out the nomodeset in grub and saved it, and configured it.  did not fix resolution issue.  i tried “dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg” but that wasn't installed, so i installed it.  tried again and literally nothing happend.  well ok then.  i then tried to do a cvt  and xrandr but now i get no GUI at all on reboot --just how many blocks free it is.  how to fix please?
