[21:06] <acheronuk> hi. when you get around to split source such as kde-baseapps into KF5 ported konqueror etc, do you intend to keep the epochs as you already have preliminarily in git?
[21:23] * jpwhiting has quit (Quit: Konversation terminated!)
[21:46] <svuorela> acheronuk: if they produce same binary packages, the epocs .. needs to be kept
[21:47] <acheronuk> even on the split source package?
[21:48] <svuorela> having source packages producing binary packages with different versions than the source package is .. annoying .. and hard to get right
[21:48] <svuorela> (Yes. I have done it. on several occasions)
[21:49] <acheronuk> svuorela: in kubuntu we have kept the epochs where the same binaries will be produced, and our release team are a bit concerned you may try to drop them on the sources
[21:51] <svuorela> I don't know what maxy (who will likely do the actual initial uploads) will do, but my suggestion would be to not have different versions of source and binary packages
[21:53] <acheronuk> yes, well I would be surprised if maxy sets out to make life extra difficult for himself
[21:54] <svuorela> exactly :)

[08:15] <maxy> I prefer epochless versions, but we are keeping the epochs in packages that already have them. We removed a bunch of library epochs as they were renamed to match the soname (kfoo to kf5foo), but I would prefer not having to tweak the binary versions in the rules.
[08:26] <acheronuk> maxy: thanks.
[08:30] <acheronuk> maxy: so if spliiting for example kde-baseapps into kdialog, keditbookmarks, kfind, konqueror as KDE have done, you would...
[08:34] <acheronuk> drop the epochs on the find and konqueror sources
[08:34] <acheronuk> *kfind
[08:35] <acheronuk> maxy: as they already have epoched .deb packages produced by the old kde-baseapps source?
[08:36] <acheronuk> sorry. I mean keep the epochs for those
[08:42] <maxy> Yes, but a new part, let's say konq-filemanager (not a realname), would be packaged without the epoch.
[08:44] <acheronuk> maxy: yep. that is exactly what we did with the ones that were 'new parts' in that sense.
